The reason exposed brick in old houses isn't usually an option is that the bricks they used inside the house were the 'seconds'. Since the walls were going to be plastered, why waste the nicest bricks to build interior walls?<br /><br />Our house is solid brick, inside and outside. I tell visitors that it's built like the builders used Legos ... start with the first row, and worked their way up. The interior is lime plaster applied directly to the brick ... makes it doubly necessary to drill a hole first when driving a nail to hand a picture.
